Set up a New 1on1 with your Manager or Direct Reports

Conducting 1on1s in WorkBoard allows you to elevate your discussions with data-driven agendas, where:

  • Both parties can plan ahead and add topics to a shared agenda
  • Current progress to plan can be added right to the agenda
  • Decisions can be captured and memorialized
  • Follow ups hit your to-do lists instantly
  • PACE calibration tool can serve as a conversation starter for gaps in alignment

In WorkBoard, 1on1s meetings are designed for coaching conversations and are therefore only available between you and the people you report to, or those who report to you. If you are trying to set up 1on1 meetings with peers or other colleagues, just create a new meeting and only invite that specific individual.

Options for Setting up 1on1s in WorkBoard

To set up your 1on1 meetings in WorkBoard, you can either create a new series directly in WorkBoard or link existing recurring 1on1 meetings from your calendar to WorkBoard.

This guide will show you how to create a new 1on1 in WorkBoard, especially if you don't have an existing cadence set up on your calendar already.

If you already have existing recurring 1on1s on your calendar and you would like to connect those for 1on1s you conduct in WorkBoard, you can find a short set of instructions here.

Set up 1on1s

You can schedule recurring or one-off 1on1s with your direct & dotted-line reports, or those that you report to.

  1. From the Create button on the top Navigation
  2. Click on Meetings and Select New 1on1 button

  3. Alternatively, on the right side of the Meetings dashboard you'll see all of the folks with whom you can set up a 1on1.

Prepare the Agenda

Add any topic you'd like to discuss to the agenda. Use the smart bullet to organize your agenda and highlight risks, ideas and FYIs.

Use the buttons at the top of the agenda to add action items, workstreams, objectives, key results or files to make sure you can spend your 1on1s removing roadblocks and staying focused on results.

View the Manager & Reports Objectives

The Objectives dropdown (located just below the PACE meter dropdown) in 1on1s lets you easily discuss your strategic initiatives.

Add Private Topics to 1on1s

All topics added to a 1on1 agenda are visible to both people by default. You can make a note to self on a 1on1 agenda that is not visible to the person with whom you are having the meeting.

In order to make a 1on1 Topic private, you must first add it, which means you should do so when they're not in the 1on1 Meeting.

  1. Look at the avatars at the top of the page. If the other person is on the agenda at the same time, you'll see a green circle and dot on their name.
  2. If they're in the meeting now, wait until they've checked out to add the topic.
  3. Add a topic to the agenda.
  4. Hover over the row, click the three dots icon (kebab menu) kebab icon .
  5. Select Make private so this topic will now only be visible to you. mceclip3.png
