For people managers, it can be hard to carve out the time needed to effectively coach team members and craft thoughtful feedback that is easy to deliver – and to receive.
Similarly, bringing up feedback to a manager comes with its own challenges. It requires balancing honesty with professionalism, choosing the right moment, and framing the message in a way that is both respectful and impactful.
Using the Situation-Behavior-Impact (SBI) framework, the Feedback Helper instantly provides suggestions on how to share positive feedback for maximum impact, or how to transform frustration or issues into constructive feedback – making it easier to have conversations that improve performance and results.
Accessing the Feedback Helper
Access the Feedback Helper by opening the Manager's Lens or Coach on Call:
- 1on1 meeting agendas & check-in conversations
- Team member profile pages
- The Direct and Dotted dashboard for managers (select the Manager's Lens from the kebab menu on the row for an individual team member)
Drafting Feedback
The Feedback Helper uses the Situation-Behavior-Impact (SBI) framework to draft feedback that helps recipients clearly understand what they did, when it happened, and why it mattered. Click the Tell me more about SBI button for a quick introduction to the framework.
To request suggestions on how to frame your feedback, click Help me frame feedback and then choose whether the feedback needs to be Positive or Constructive or difficult.
The Feedback Helper will ask for a description of the situation or behavior you would like to give feedback on, and may reply to your description with a request for further clarification if needed.
Once the Feedback Helper has the context, it will provide a breakdown of the incident into Situation, Behavior, and Impact, as well as suggested wording for delivering the feedback.
If the suggested draft isn't quite right, use the text input to provide more context or request specific modifications, or just click Try again to generate a new suggestion. Once you are satisfied with the drafted feedback, click Copy to paste it into a document for editing, a 1on1 agenda, or a feedback badge.
